SmartDrive PROMISE – Information for Schools
School Year 2018-2019

All High School programs recognized by your state Department of Education are eligible to participate in the SmartDrive Foundation’s PROMise programs.  SmartDrive PROMise is offered to all high schools at no charge. We ask each school to provide contacts for the Student Leadership Organization (NHS, Senior Class, Junior Class, FCCLA, BPA, InterAct, Key Club, Leo’s) that will lead the campaign in your school.

To enroll your school in SmartDrive PROMise – please complete this form –

SmartDrive asks that a one week SmartDrive PROMise campaign be scheduled BEFORE the your school’s Spring Prom event(s).

As part of that SmartDrive PROMise week, or at any time prior to the school’s Spring Prom event(s), the school must also schedule an assembly for the members of the Senior and Junior Classes.

During the assembly, SmartDrive will present our DWI: Driving With Intelligence program (30-35 minutes).
The program reviews the dangers of impairments – distraction, drowsiness, drinking and drugs – and strategies for surviving those situations. The program concludes with participation by the school SRO or local law enforcement officer to review how students should react in a traffic stop situation, and the experience they have had making family notification visits after a teen has been killed or seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash.

If the SmartDrive DWI program cannot be scheduled during PROMise week – any date before the school’s Spring Prom event(s) is an acceptable substitute.

During the PROMise week, the student leadership organization must encourage the entire student body to go online (http://bit.ly/SDPROM) and make their SmartDrive PROMise for motor vehicle safety.  To assist the students in making their PROMise,  the SmartDrive Foundation will provide business card sized “PROMise Cards” for distribution to all 9-12 grade students. School must provide enrollment figures for each grade (9-12) so the appropriate number of PROMise cards will be delivered.

2019 SmartDrive PROMise card.

All students must make the SmartDrive PROMise online through this webpage – http://bit.ly/SDPROM.

SmartDrive will collect the following information from each student:

  • Student School
  • Student Name
  • Student Grade (9-12)
  • Student Birthday (for demographic tracking and other SmartDrive program offerings)
  • Student’s Email or Text Messaging number
  • Parent/Guardian’s Email or Text Messaging number
The Parent/Guardian information is required to meet Children’s Internet Protection Act regulations. SmartDrive will send the Texas Roadhouse Reward certificate to parent/guardian as notification that their student has engaged with SmartDrive – and to encourage family discussion around motor vehicle safety around both Prom and Graduation events, then leading into the 100 Deadliest Day for Teens on our highways, between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  In 2018, five teens died on Delaware roadways last summer, only one additional Teen Driver was lost outside of the summer months.

The SmartDrive Foundation does not share any student information collected online.  SmartDrive collects this information securely in compliance with our Privacy Policy. Parent/Guardian contact information is required for all students as Parents/Guardians will be notified by email or text message when their student makes the SmartDrive PROMise.

Students can make their SmartDrive PROMise through May 2019.
