Congratulations!

Now that you have earned your Defensive Driving Program (BASIC) Certificate of Completion with your completion of SmartDrive Classic and it’s three Lessons; and your Parents’ completion of The Parent Lesson; you are now eligible to compete for post secondary scholarship prize awards through the completion of the SmartDrive Essay.

Each school year, all students will be given the same topic on which to write.

Your essay submission must be between 250 and 500 words in length. May we suggest using a format for compositions like the five-paragraph essay. It is not the only format for writing an essay, of course, but it is a useful model for you to keep in mind, especially as you continue to develop your writing skills.  For more information on the five-paragraph essay model – visit this webpage. (You can bookmark the link for reference)

Please work on your essay offline, and then you may upload or copy and paste your finished document into the response area in this section of SmartDrive Classic.

VERY IMPORTANT – Please be sure to include YOUR NAMEYOUR LOGIN ID (email address), and THE NAME AND LOCATION OF YOUR SCHOOL in the header of your essay. If your essay is more than one (1) page long, you must include your name and email address on each page of the essay.

HEADER EXAMPLE:

Ima Smart Driver
My Login ID
(email address)
Lord De La Warr High School
New Castle, DE

Again – The content of your essay will be the largest part of your score.

Your essay score will be added to the scores you received on the quizzes following Lessons 1, 2 and 3, as well as your parent’s score on their quiz at the end of The Parent Lesson.

Your essay must be submitted prior to 11:59 PM on Sunday, May 23, 2021
There will be no exceptions to this deadline.

  • Essays will be reviewed immediately following the posted deadline.
  • Scholarship award notifications will be made by email to both the student and the parent email address provided during your enrollment in SmartDrive Classic.
  • Scholarship awardees will have 10 (ten) days from the notification date to acknowledge the award. If SmartDrive does not hear from you or your parent prior to the deadline, the award will be made to another student.
